Study Abroad Eligibility

  1. Students must be in good standing at the University at the time of application (not on academic or social probation).

  2. Students must have a cumulative UWF GPA of at least 2.5 at the time of applying for an exchange program.  Students who do not meet this requirement will be placed on the waiting list.  Students with the required GPA will receive priority.  Students with a lower overall GPA, but with good academic performance the preceding two semesters may petition to participate in an exchange program.  Some programs may have higher GPA requirements established by the host institution.

  3. Transfer students with a minimum of 24 transfer credit hours may apply for participation in a UWF exchange program.  The 2.5-GPA requirement will be based on the student’s transfer GPA.

  4. Freshman students must have completed a minimum of 24 UWF credit hours to be able to participate in an exchange program.  Students applying for study abroad one year in advance of completing the required number of credit hours may do so by submitting all required documents and a letter requesting special consideration of their application.

  5. Students must have a minimum of one semester left to graduation to be eligible to participate in study abroad.

  6. Students must complete the UWF online application and enrollment process.

  7. Students are not eligible for an exchange program unless the academic advisor or the major department chairperson approves the exchange.

  8. Students must complete all forms required by the host institution and submit them by the published deadlines.

  9. Students must provide proof of health/accident insurance, which includes coverage for emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, and mental health for the length of their study abroad program.  Coverage has to be a minimum of US$100,000.00, and a minimum of $25,000.00 for medical evacuation and $25,000.00 for repatriation, and $5,000.00 for mental health. Students must provide the Study Abroad Office a completed Health/Accident Insurance Verification Form by the established deadlines.
