When Programs Require You to Pay UWF Tuition

Each student who participates in an international exchange program where tuition is paid to the home institution (UWF), will be registered at UWF during the study abroad period in courses determined to be the “equivalent” of those being taken at the host institution – either an assigned UWF course offering (i.e. PSB 4002) or the development of a special topics course offering (i.e. MAR 399X) as determined by the Chair of the UWF department offering the similar course(s).  In some instances, the student may be required to select an alternate course at the host institution, if UWF cannot match its course offering to the host institution’s course offering.  A student needs to be aware of these procedures:
  1. Prior to being approved for participation by the ODIEP, each student is required to:
    1. Meet with his/her academic advisor to discuss the plans for study abroad, discuss the courses he/she plans to take while abroad to determine how the courses will apply to the student’s academic program at UWF;
    2. Complete the International Exchange Participation Request, and submit the form for approval to the ODIEP;
    3. After the student has been approved for participation, the student together with his/her advisor will complete the International Exchange Advising Agreement  listing the host school courses to be taken.
    4. In addition, the student and advisor will work with applicable UWF Chairpersons in the assignment or development of equivalent UWF course offerings prior to the semester of exchange.
    5. The completed and signed Advising Agreement must be turned into the Registrar’s Office prior to the first day of classes at the host institution.  Students are encouraged to contact academic advisors early in the process and plan accordingly since advisors may not be available between semesters.
  2. Once the student has arrived at the host institution and registered for classes, a completed and signed Enrollment Certification Form must be forwarded to the UWF Registrar’s Office, Attn: Linda Johnson by fax (850.473.7345) or by e-mail attachment (to lljohnso@uwf.edu).  The student’s UWF registration will be processed upon receipt of this Enrollment Certification.
  3. Any schedule adjustments (adds, drops, changes, withdrawals) at the host institution must be forwarded to the UWF Registrar’s Office via an updated Enrollment Certification Form by UWF’s next business day.
  4. Note that enrollment certification may be required prior to disbursement of any financial aid award(s) and a copy will be provided to the UWF Financial Aid Office upon receipt.
  5. Upon completion of the study abroad program (semester or term), an official transcript must be forwarded directly from the host school’s Administrative Office (i.e. Registrar) to the UWF Registrar’s Office for processing.  The UWF Registrar’s Office will post final grades for the semester of exchange.  In addition to the assigned course information (i.e. course prefix, course number, course title, credit hours) and the final grade that will be reflected for each course on the UWF transcript, a remark will also be posted identifying the student’s participation in an international exchange program, the period of study, the host institution’s name and location (country), as well as the institution awarding academic credit (i.e. UWF).
