Program Description

University of Klagenfurt
The Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt is the perfect alternative to mass universities. Students can arrive early and take one month of non-credit Intensive German at no tuition cost.

Courses of Study: Courses are available in various topics. Many courses are available in Communication, Computer Science, Music, Literature, and Engineering. German Language is also available as a course during the semester; there is an 84 Euro administrative fee for this course.

Application and Procedures:
Standard UWF Study Abroad Application Procedures apply. Students will also need a copy of their high school completion, official transcript from UWF, and copy of their passport for application.

*Tuition is paid to UWF and UWF Credit is received for exchanges.

Health and Insurance:
Study Abroad Insurance is required.
**Students planning to study during the Spring/”Sommer” term should plan to receive vaccination for Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) upon arrival in Austria, with a second shot 4 weeks later. Students can review information about TBE and the vaccine on the CDC Travel Website.

Housing/Accommodation
Klagenfurt offers a wide range of accommodation near the University and in the surroundings. There are forums on our homepage bulletin board for private offers of accommodation and for the formation of apartment-sharing communities. Residence halls with single and double rooms are available from EUR 220 to EUR 300 per month.

Apartments are generally shared with 2 beds per room. A deposit is required which varies depending on the hall of residence. Deposits will be refunded when you leave.
If you prefer to make alternative living arrangements, the ÖAD has a wide range of private accommodation available.
Should you be arriving late in the evening and therefore unable to move into the room immediately, it is best to organize temporary accommodation at the local youth hostel, which is located very close to the university campus.

Don Bosco

Price: Double room EUR 220,--
Facilities: Study room, internet connections, common room, cycle racks, parking spaces, communal kitchens, coin operated washing machines, TV room, TV connection in all rooms, cable/satellite connection.

Note: to help with efficient processing of reserving the accommodation, please inform the International Office of the exact date/time of your arrival at Klagenfurt.

Visa Information
No visa is required for US citizens. All students must apply for a Residence Permit upon arrival to Klagenfurt. Students need the following documents in order to apply for a "RESIDENCE PERMIT" ("AUFENHALTSBEWILLIGUNG STUDIERENDE") in Klagenfurt:
Two passport size photographs
Passport - must be valid at least three months beyond the date of arrival in Klagenfurt
Acceptance letter from the University of Klagenfurt (which students receive before coming to Klagenfurt)
Housing confirmation (which will be sent to the student by our housing coordinator)
Student Health Insurance (which the students can apply for immediately after receiving their student ID from the University of Klagenfurt)
Proof of sufficient funds (the bank statement should show sufficient funds for the student´s entire stay at Klagenfurt)
Copy of their birth certificate Certificate of good conduct
The student visa costs € 110,-- (subject to change without notice)
** Students should bring all of the required items with them to Austria.
Students from outside of the US may require a visa and/or different procedure for residence permit.
